The Texture Atlas – Specimen Sheet No. 1

The Texture Atlas – Specimen Sheet No. 1

This is the first sheet in an ongoing collection I’m calling The Texture Atlas.

I’ve always been fascinated by surfaces—the way light hits water, the pattern of a leaf’s veins, the roughness of bark, or the flow of fabric. This piece is my attempt to collect and catalog these textures, like pages from a naturalist’s field journal or specimens pinned in a cabinet of curiosities.

Each circle is its own little black and white world, taken from an old engraving and thoughtfully refined and enhanced.. Some are inspired by nature, others by abstract patterns I’ve observed in everyday life. I like to think of them as samples—fragments of the visual world worth preserving and studying up close.

This is Sheet No. 1. There will be more to follow, each one adding new textures to the atlas. I hope you’ll collect them as they come, or simply enjoy looking closely at the details. Sometimes the smallest things hold the most interest.
