Summer in the City
Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn’t it a pity
Doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the city
There’s definitely a lot of cover songs you could mention that people might not know the originals. One of them is Summer in the City. Summer in the City is a song recorded by The Lovin’ Spoonful, written by Mark Sebastian and Steve Boone. The song appeared on their album Hums of the Lovin’ Spoonful, and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 1966. The song features a sequence of car horns during the instrumental bridge, in order to give the impression of the sounds of the summer in the city. The cover version of this song performed by Joe Cocker was the main inspiration for this illustration.
