Pandora surreal black and white art by Ladislav Hubert

Pandora and the Remaining Silence

She holds what the world forgot—
the last silence, sealed and waiting.
Not a curse. Not a blessing.
Just the stillness before it all begins.

This work is my surreal reinterpretation of the Pandora myth—but not the version where everything escapes. Instead, I imagined her as the one who still holds back what hasn’t yet been released. She stands calm, almost serene. But what she carries—the pithos, the ancient vessel—isn’t empty. It still contains what we haven’t faced yet. That last thing. The one that didn’t get out. She’s not just a character anymore. She’s become something else: a guardian, a warning. Her silence isn’t peaceful—it’s loaded. She doesn’t act, but she doesn’t have to. Her stillness says more than words. I think of this piece as the moment right before something breaks open. A quiet that feels too deep. Like the breath the world takes before something begins again—or ends.
